A Not Forgotten Birthday
I remember your birthday
Because it sticks in my mind
But the date does not count now
I think you will find
For you dwell in the past now
In days that’s gone by
And they’ll never return
I’ll accept with a sigh
But it’s good I remembered
It’s good I recall
The pleasures we live through
No matter how small
That road that we travelled
Had many a stop
And somewhere back there
Is where you got off
So I’ll toast to your birthday
Not forgotten at all
As I think of our friendship
Which is sadly no more.

Unkind Words
I’m sure I never said that
Was that really me
Because when I think about it
I’m not filled with glee
Of course I was mistaken
To judge you in that way
I hope you will forgive me
And things are still OK
I jumped to the wrong conclusion
Without hearing all the facts
And now I think about it
It seems I’ve been so lax
Emotions led my thinking
And clouded up my mind
I hope you will forgive me
For being so unkind.
