Listening to the Wind

I lay beneath my duvet
And listened to the wind
Beating on my window
As loudly it does sing
Not a song of beauty
But one to cause alarm
And how that in my orchard
I ‘d hoped it would not harm
The trees there have no foliage
But still they bend and sway
Waiting for that moment
A lull will come their way
Chairs and things lie scattered
Caught beneath the trees
Where once there was some order
You’ll find no birds or bees
For all things take their refuse
In places far and wide
Until the magic moment
When this angry wind subsides…

WINDMILLS

I THROW MY CAP AT WINDMILLS
WHOSE PADDLES SPIN AROUND
ARCHING THROUGH THE BREEZES
THAT SEEM TO GUST AROUND
I THROW MY CAP AT FARMERS
WHO PLOUGH THEIR FURROWS DEEP
IN PERFECT LINES OF SYMMETRY
FOR AUTUMN CROPS TO REAP
I THROW MY CAP AT HEDGEROWS
WHO OFFER BIRDS A CHANCE
TO NEST AND HAVE THEIR BABIES
UPON THEIR TWIGS AND BRANCH
I THROW MY CAP AT RAINDROPS
THAT MASK THE SKY OF GREY
AND QUENCH THE LITTLE SEEDLINGS
WHILE IN THE FIELDS THEY LAY
I THROW MY CAP AT INSECTS
WHO GO ABOUT THEIR DAY
TO POLLINATE THE FLOWERS
WITHIN THEIR GIFTS OF PLAY
I THROW MY CAP AT MOONBEAMS
WHO DANCE ME IN THEIR LIGHT
AND GUIDE ME TO MY HOMESTEAD
SO I CAN REST TONIGHT
I THROW MY CAP AT NATURE
FOR ALL THE THINGS I SEE
THAT MAKE ME FEEL SO CARED FOR
AND DRESS MY LIFE WITH GLEE

Thought to Ponder – “In the age of technology there is constant access to vast amounts of information. The basket overflows; people get overwhelmed; the eye of the storm is not so much what goes on in the world, it is the confusion of how to think, feel, digest, and react to what goes on.- Criss Jami
