THE ANGEL AND THE TREE
An angel on a mission
Showed to me a tree
She pointed to its branches
Because she hoped I’d see
The fruits of all its labour
Waiting to be picked
And it did not seem to matter
Just who would take these gifts
To a tree we all are equal
A fly, a bird or me
And sharing out its bounty
Would make that tree be free
And then as if by bonus
It purified the air
And I could only wonder
At the beauty of its care
For trees they need preserving
Until the end of time
As that angel on its mission
Showed me why it was designed.

The Clocks Stopped
The stillness of the fingers
Deny the time of day
But this is just a pretence
As moments tick away
The clock of evolution
Can scarcely catch its breath
As it wanders ever onwards
Towards its own redress
Like light and dark revolving
With nothing in between
It’s place within the cosmos
Is not what it might seem
As neutrons to an atom
Dancing in the gloom
There’s always something calling
That plays a bigger tune
Like the footsteps of a traveller
Who leaves his chosen path
The earth is on a journey
While still looking for its map
A million stars and counting
Twinkle in the sky
For they are part of progress
But none can say just why
Existence is a strange thing
Without a stop and go
But don’t ask me why the clocks stopped
Because really I don’t know.
