ZEN GARDEN

Those bamboo reeds that gently sway

And mock the day that fades away

In silent thoughts that shout and scream

I stand alone as in a dream

For time itself is holding still

As if by chance against my will

The perfumed nectar of each flower

My very being at once devours

And though this spell I cannot break

With all my senses it will take

To hold this gift that may expire

This Zen of meditation

Steps to a Forgotten Boat

Those steps now lead to nowhere

Except each lapping wave

The ships that once were moored there

Have long since gone away

The sailors who set sail there

Are lost within the past

Their history and their stories

Long lost beneath a mast

Where did the compass take them

Which stars at night did shine

Now just an empty jetty

Is all that’s left to find

I hope they sailed to freedom

And lived a life so true

Upon the very ocean

This jetty has in view
