The first poem is a nod towards all the knick-knack’s and junk I have managed to acquire and hid in cupboards in the belief that one day they will become useful.
Working through the clutter
Of things I’ve put away
Forgetting what it looks like
But may use again one day
Things that had their moment
Though long since has that passed
Just holding onto memories
From my distant past
Like presents from a Christmas
Of oh so long ago
Remembering who gave it
Well really I don’t know
Or trinkets from the sunshine
Of places far away
What year was it we went there?
I really cannot say
Best ignore my feelings
And cast this junk aside
Instead of in a cupboard
As if it had to hide
For my past is not in objects
Or even on a film
But held within my memory
On which each day I build
So I’ll throw away this clutter
As if I have no care
And enjoy the sense of freedom
With an empty draw to spare
The second poem is about how each day should be treated as a day of new opportunities.
When I awoke this morning
I found my soul was free
And all the things that held it
No longer shackled me
The morning now had a meaning
I’d never seen before
For nature in her glory
Had opened up a door
To a world just filled with sunshine
That I alone could see
A gift from all the Angels
Wrapped up in love for me
At last I saw the blessings
That life had spread around
Captured in that moment
Where my freedom did abound.
Thought to Ponder – Authenticity is everything! You have to wake up every day and look in the mirror, and you want to be proud of the person who’s looking back at you. And you can only do that if you’re being honest with yourself and being a person of high character. You have an opportunity every single day to write that story of your life. – Aaron Rodgers
