IN HURRIED RUSH IT PAINTS THE GROUND
WITH TRICKLED WEEPING ALL AROUND
IN PANICKED CHASE IT CHANGES FORM
FOR THAT IS WHEN A STREAM IS BORN
WITH PEBBLED BASE AND ROCKY SIDES
ONWARDS, DOWNWARDS IT DOES GLIDE
PASSING LANDSCAPES LUSH AND GREEN
TO PLACES WHERE ITS NEVER BEEN
ALL THE TIME IT GROWS IN SIZE
ITS WIDTH AND DEPTH IT MULTIPLIES
IT CANNOT STOP IT HAS NO TIME
TO FAIL TO FLOW WOULD BE A CRIME
IT GURGLES ONWARD WITHOUT ABATE
FOR NOT A MOMENT CAN IT WAIT
AS IT DESCENDS TO VALLEYS FLOOR
AND AS A STREAM IT IS NO MORE
BUT THEN A MIGHTY RIVER
