The Skill of Writing

It’s no longer the rage

To put ink on the page

Now that tablets have the sway

For some never again

Will they  search for a pen

Just to make a little note

They’ll just get a new app

That will deal with all that

Nothing personal

But they just don’t have time

They are in such a rush

With no time to discuss

The finer points of this crime

But the day it will dawn

When they’ll come over forlorn

For a language they can no longer write

The Smiling Man

The joy of it all just made him smile

As he sat on that wall for quite a long while

He saw mothers with babies held in their arms

And fathers right by them in relative calm

An old deck chair seller snored under a tree

While people sat down on his chairs without fee

Small birds in their dozens just pecked at the sand

Searching each grain for food to be found

Waves on the foreshore ebbed back to the sea

Pulling at pebbles that longed to be free

Bathers with goggles created a sight

As they snorkeled around in a swell that was light

Here were some pictures some moments in time

That captured his thoughts at least for a while

As he sat all alone on that wall.

Thought to Ponder – Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. – Leo Buscaglia
