Sometimes when I am quiet
And nearly fast asleep
You give to me a vision
In which I take a peep
It’s really not in this world
Or even in the next
It’s somewhere in the middle
At least that’s what I get
It’s hard to talk about it
That vista in between
The world in which I’m living
And the one that goes unseen
The light of day has vanished
But it isn’t all that dark
And I can see quite clearly
How the past has left its mark
So you repair the damage
So I can start again
Along life’s great adventure
In a day we’ve yet to name
The bank is sadly empty
No fish to catch today
But still it is so quiet
That the ducks come out to play
They waddle down the towpath
While pecking at the ground
As the reeds they sway so gently
And make a rustling sound
A water vole in motion
Swims towards the shore
First checking that the coast is clear
As up the bank it claws
It finds some tasty titbits
Left beneath the grass
Then dives back in the water
As safety first it grasps
The clouds then cast their shadow
Reflecting on each waves
As the day moves ever onwards
Towards that evening faze
Retreating to my garden
I wander down its path
Happy in the knowledge
That night has come at last
Such promise
My days they hold such promise
Sweet joys they must fulfill
Like all the sounds of morning
Whose voice is such a thrill
Each dawn it holds a chorus
Announcing what is new
About the skies above me
In all their cloudless blue
Just now and then a whisper
That dances through trees
Heralding the rhythms
That’s held within the breeze
This is my own adventure
That starts again today
While bathed within the sunshine
This day has brought my way
I’ll look for smiling faces
Wherever I may roam
Until in weary wander
I find my way back home
