Pay homage

Let’s pay homage to this planet

The one we call the earth

For all the gifts it gives us

From the moment of our birth

It’s just a speck in nowhere

And does not make a claim

An atom in the darkness

No human thought can tame

It carries all our visions

The ones that live in hope

On some new bright tomorrow

Where all our cares elope

It spins without a resting

And knows we cannot see

It’s just a speck in nowhere

Of a moment that is free

Nettles
Those nettles like to quarrel
Just sparring for a fight
As they hide beneath the bushes
Just waiting for a strike
They think I have not noticed
The way that they have spread
But I’m coming with my Dutch hoe
To turn them out of bed
I’ll put them on the compost
Where they will rot away
Instead of causing conflict
Upon my skin today
I know that I should like them
Although they’re hard to love
Especially if I touch them
Without my gardening glove
Their rash it lingers ages
And makes me want to swear
Or search to find a dock leaf
Which I know I’ll find somewhere
Though butterflies they love them
I’m really not the same
As I unroot these  bullies
And my garden again reclaim

Pastoral Serenade

Lazy days will soon be mine

As on the grass I will recline

I’ll feel again the earth sweet breath

And count the joys that I have left

So many summers I’ve left behind

With their own unique design

Oh what gifts are yet to come

While I dance around the sun

And linger in those lengthened days

Drinking in that magic haze

That heaven that is summer.

Thought to Ponder – “Knowing how to be solitary is central to the art of loving. When we can be alone, we can be with others without using them as a means of escape.” – Bell Hooks
