First Barge
The first barge slowly passed me as it chugged along its way
Pushing back the reeds in the water as they swayed
Ducks made haste for cover upon the furthest bank
While the person on the tiller gave orders to the ranks
My smile gave way to laughter as I took in all the scene
Of a captain on a narrow boat living out his dream.
Ahoy I shouted to him as he gave to me a nod
As the bow from his vessel against the waves did plod
It’s the first barge of the springtime I’m sure there will be more
In their brightly coloured paintwork with names to fit galore
They’re the blight of quiet anglers who sit in patience wait
For those hungry little fishes to bite upon their bait.
Such scenes will soon consume me as I stroll along the bank
In the shade of springtime bushes whose canal side they do flank
The Notion of Time
Time is just the notion
That lends itself to space
For if we did not have it
How would our lives be traced
Eternal though we maybe
It’s seems so very plain
Without its very structure
We would not have a claim
Souls that have no body
Just drifting in the blue
Until that very moment
When time it starts anew
With vessels full of hoping
Renewing pacts with earth
To feed on every eon
Exploring all their worth
Though really just a notion
I’m glad that we have time
To dwell in precious seconds
Within our god’s design
