Well I am just back from my autumn break in Lixouri Kefalonia. I met some really nice people there all getting that last bit of sunshine before winter sets in.
While I was there I got a chance to check my archive on the website and found some poems used in the past that did not transfer properly, so I will over the next few months use them again.
Empty Hills
The hills in the distance
Just beckoned me near
For they have a voice
That they want me to hear
They speak of the past
And things they have seen
In those years of such plenty
That once there had been
Now only the fissures
In their structure remain
Gone are the treasures
That once they contained
Gone like the miners
Whose songs gave then cheer
As they carried off their bounty
To lands far and near
Now only the picks
And shovels lay claim
To the barren tunnels
That have quietly remained
To past beyond remembering.
Sleepy Garden
The litter of leaves just dressed the lawn
As the starkness of trees stand alone and forlorn
What can be said of a time that is gone
Nothing at all because we have moved on
On to the future that lies in the spring
And all of the magic next summer may bring
But for now just the sleepy beneath this mantle of snow
That belonged to a time that once we did know
Now lost like the heat that came from the sun
As we wait for winter and all that’s to come
In the ever shortening days
