A BUDDHIST IN TRAINING

I’m all for things in nature

But ants between my toes

Tickle my sensations

At least that’s how it goes

They just don’t seem to notice

That I am very large

As they rush about my body

Like mercenaries on a charge

It takes all my Buddhist training

To try to let them be

But now and then they pinch me

As if to torment me

See that’s the thing with nature

With size you cannot tell

Just how a big a nuisance

These ants can be as well

So I’ll leave them in my garden

And make my way inside

My god the doors been open

And the kitchens full of flies

It’s best I try to shoo them

And force them back outside

But I never for a moment

Thought I could be their guide

But that’s the thing with Buddha

I think you will agree

He preached that all our blessed

That lives on earth with me

PTT

Spirit Chatter

The voices had no fanfare

In fact they sounded plain

Whispering some nonsense

That I could not explain

It’s hard to quite remember

Just when this all began

Perhaps I should not listen

For I am just a man

For they are very noisy

And wake me from my sleep

As I push away their chatter

When evening shadows creep

They never speak with malice

In fact they are quite kind

But they demand such answers

That I know I’ll never find

I have no heart to chase them

Or say please go away

For they are only spirits

Who come to me to say

We’re glad that you can hear us

And that you give us the time

To talk about those loved ones

We had to leave behind
