Somewhere in the distance
Not so far away
I met a lovely Angel
While he was out to play
He put his wings around me
And bathed me in his smile
But that was like a nothing
Once I’d looked into his eyes
For all those happy memories
I thought that I’d forgot
Were played again before me
So clearly I had not
I saw again the people
From days so long ago
When life for me was simple
At least I thought it so
I sat beneath my mother lap
As she gentle combed my hair
And giggled with my brothers
That once were always there
Soon dad would be amongst us
With his face as wise as time
As our dog it licked my fingers
Like it had a thousand times
And I knew it was my history
For it made me want to sigh
Just another gift from this Angel
Of a family that once was mine

The Burden of Rain

The raindrops just reflected

The clouds that skated by

A mirror of a vision

That once it called the sky

Nothing in its passing

Gave view to what had been

A shower from a storm front

That washed the ground so clean

The petals on each flower

Now bent with all the weight

Could not shed a teardrop

For this it was their fate

Now nothing in that garden

Will ever be the same

Because it felt such sorrow

Of another day of rain

The Carnival is Over

The carnival is over
Why would I come this way
For nothing of the festival
Is left out on display
No brightly coloured ribbons
No dancers of delight
No band to play the music
No sun so clear and bright
Now the evening light is fading
Against a cloudy sky
Something brushes past me
That makes me want to smile
A balloon that makes a statement
Of something that has been
For the carnival is over
No more will it be seen

Thought To Ponder – There are moments when I wish I could roll back the clock and take all the sadness away, but I have the feeling that if I did, the joy would be gone as well.”- Nicholas Sparks
